Evelyn A. (Shimkus) "Penny" Martin, 83, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. Born in Brockton to the late Adam and Evelyn I. (Kavalch) Shimkus, she graduated Brockton High School in 1959 then Brockton Hospital School of Nursing. Evelyn was a registered nurse at Brockton Hospital for 54 years in many departments and also for area doctors part-time. She enjoyed knitting and shopping, and casual relaxation with family. Evelyn was the wife of the late Arthur D. Martin, beloved mother of Stephen Martin (and Maureen) of Brockton, Christopher Martin (BFD) of Easton, and Jennifer Hardy and her husband Michael of Brockton, loving grandmother of Cory Nelson, Chris Moreira, Benjamin Martin, Adam Martin, Matthew Matta, and Nicholas Matta, great-grandmother of Riley, Mila, and Carson, sister of the late Michael Shimkus, aunt of Tina Sbardella and her husband Joe, Tania Shimkus, Michael Shimkus and the late Toni Spurgeon, sister-in-law of Judith (Martin) Valatkevicz, aunt of Sue Kiefer and Amy Bates and their families. 

All are welcome to calling hours Sunday June 29th from 1 to 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 4 p.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton. Cremation and private committal. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to St. Joseph Manor Healthcare or Sunset Hospice Services.
